So, those of you who've known me on here for a while have most likely heard my story about living in a black hole of independent mobility otherwise known as a nice suburban neighborhood so my kid could attend a great school and my husband could take para transit to work. Well, the husband is gone, and good riddance, and the kiddo has moved on to middle school.

I've decided to sell this house and move my son and myself to something smaller and more practicle for just the two of us. The best new of all though is that I've found a place where he can stay in the same school, have school bus service and ... wait for it ... wait for it ... I'll have mobility again!
I'll be able to walk to Starbucks, Best Donuts, Wallgreens, a Krogar grocery store, Taco Bell, Subway, a BBQ place, Jakc in the crack, a nail salon, my bank, and a medical clennic for minor medical needs. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I'll be able to get another guide dog and rejoin the world. I can't tell you what a releaf it'll be to know that a gallon of milk is only a 10 minute walk away rather than having to get a ride to the store.

I havent' yet told my son about the move because he loves this house. I'm going to tell him next weekend because he's got some concerts and things goig on at school this week and I don't want to ruin that for him. I know he loves this house so much because he has memories of his dad here and the rooms are ridiculously large. Our new house is 1621 square feet as opposed to this one that is 3076 square feet. I need a fresh start away from all the bad memories and my wallet needs a break from the expenses of such a large place. I'm hopeful that he'll adjust quickly. There are apparently a ton of kids in the new neighborhood that go to his school and almost every other house there has a basketball hoop in the driveway. There's no HOA there like we have here so we'll be getting one as well. The backyard in the new house is bigger too.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share. Wish us luck.

What excellent news, DG! I'm so happy for you! Freedom to walk to a few places makes all the difference to one's quality of life, doesn't it? Do you know when you'll be moving? Good luck, with the sale of the house. I hope it goes smoothly, and happens soon, and I hope your son will have an easier time adjusting than he might at first think.

I also can't wait to hear any guide dog news!

Good luck. Your son will adjust better then you will. Smile.
Kids are flexible that way.
Being able to get places will make you feel on top of the world.
Just going and sitting in the Starbucks and having a coffee is worth it.
Peace girl. You'll love it.

I'm very very happy for you, and wish you all the luck in the world. but I am
curious about one thing, what in the world is jack in the crack? is that a funny
way of refering to jack in the box? Inquiring minds must know.

Lol, yes, Jack in the Crack aka JAck in the Box. We've also dubbed Taco Bell, Taco Smell.

How old is your son? I hope for everyone's sake that he does not resent both you and
or your husband. I know when I had to move out of my big house I did. I was fourteen.

Congratulations, DG! I remember the years I had no freedom, and this I will not forget. You have my sympathies, and I couldn't be happier that you get your freedom back!

Good for you, DG. Don't fret too much over your son. A happy, independent mother should make for a happier son after he adjusts.

My son amazes me every chance he gets. He took the news about the move very well. He didn't have anything negative to say. I showed him the pics of the house on line and he likes it. I can't tell you how releaved I am.
